A Practitioner’s approach to understanding CMMI-Dev V1.2 model implementation
( Two day Workshop )
About the Course :

The Workshop aims to address the critical need of practitioners to assimilate the intent of the Capability Maturity Model Integrated – Development (CMMI®-DEV) V1.2 practices and interpreting the same from a practical viewpoint. The main objective is not just to understand the expectations in the model, but also to get the flavour of implementing the same in light of real life scenario.

The Workshop would enable the participants to learn the CMMI-Dev in details and relate the same to the workflow in an organization.

Workshop Format :

The workshop would be a mix of faculty led lectures and active participation from attendees in relating to common problems faced in day-to-day work. There would be high level of interaction and discussion with attendees to illustrate the benefits of the model practices as well as highlight the risks of not implementing the spirit of the model practices.

Workshop Contents :

The two day workshop would cover the topics as noted below. There would be exercises at appropriate junction points to elaborate and understand model concepts.

Day 1

• Introduction - Ice-breaker and expectations setting

• Background and Framework of CMMI® - This topic would address the backdrop and the evolution of the CMMI® framework. It is important to understand the framework details to be able to relate the model practices with reality

• Staged & Continuous Representation - The model offers flexibility in interpretation and deployment in alignment with business needs of an organization. The different representations of the model explore the flavour of this flexibility

• Maturity Levels in Staged Representation - The intent of each maturity level (cultural plateau) during the transformation of organizational maturity is explained in this module. The concept of how one level supports the other and the expected characteristics of different levels are discussed

• The path to Implementing CMMI® - For any organization, the roadmap for implementing the model is as important (if not more) compared to the model details. This topic covers the practical aspects of transitioning the model practices into any organizational framework

• Level 2 Process Areas - Each ‘Process Area’ of Maturity Level 2 is discussed with details covering the implementation aspects. The model practices are made lucid through pictorial illustrations of the inter-linkages between the practices of the Process Area

Day 2

• Recap of Day 1

• Level 3 Process Areas - The evolution of organizational maturity from Level 2 to Level 3 is explained with illustrative examples. The difference in ‘intent’ between the two maturity levels helps the participants to assimilate the model details from practical view point

• Level 4 and 5 Process Areas - These High Maturity Process Areas are conceptualized based on the underlying expectations of the model correlating with the scenario of project execution in an organization.

• Concluding Activities and Quiz - A summary of the topics covered in the two days are discussed prior to administering a quiz with real life example scenario to familiarize the participants with interpreting and applying the model contents. The quiz is scored!
